Our current focus is helping landowners create hedgerows on agricultural lands, with online and field-based workshops for more learning & hands-on implementation practice. Hands-on Hedgerow Demonstration Workshop with Summit Farms (November 7, 2026, from 9:00 to 3:30 p.m.): Join us for the sixth hands-on workshop in this “Discover Hedgerows!” series with our ongoing educational partners, Thurston Conservation District, and our landowner demonstration-site partners, Summit Farms. You’ll see how thoughtful hedgerow design can create big benefits for a farm and surrounding ecosystems. This project is over 500 feet long, and it will use native trees & shrubs to protect waterways and endangered species, while providing months of blooms, fruits, and cover for wildlife of all sizes. Prep Day for Workshop (November 5, 2026, from 9:30 to 1:30 p.m.): Join us in this pre-workshop learning opportunity where we will be blocking out the planting areas into 5-foot sections to enable easier placement of plants on November 7th, using pin flags, twine, and paint. We’ll also be grouping 15 species according to where they’ll eventually be planted, and labelling plants. This is a great way to learn more about our hedgerow installation processes while getting your hands a little dirty! Register here.
“Discover Hedgerows” Success Tours: Over the 2026 summer, we visited two farms (Helsing Junction Farms & Piece by Piece Farm). The farmers, our Thurston Conservation District colleagues, and the original hedgerow designers on our team spent the evening discussing the hedgerows that had been installed there. We covered everything from the farmer’s goals, installation methods, success/challenges so far, budget/costs, plant survival, and much more. View the write-ups for those two events on this page.
